A Minnesota native, Tim Lies has lived in Belle Plaine for over
20 years with his wife, Kathy Farmer, and their six children. As a teenager growing up in South Minneapolis, Tim spent
summers working at a church camp near Hinkley with disadvantaged children from Minneapolis. This job combined what would
become two of Tim’s lifelong passions: the great outdoors and serving others.
An avid fisherman,
camper and bicyclist, Tim has shared his love of Minnesota's natural resources with his children through
countless camping trips, bicycling odysseys and fishing and canoe expeditions.Tim has served mentally and emotionally disabled
people for his entire professional life and is currently the program manager of a crisis unit at Mount Olivet Rolling Acres
in Victoria.
Elected to the Belle Plaine City Council, 2004
Collaborated with the Belle Plaine school board as the City representative
to facilitate a $37 million school building and remodeling project.
Instrumental in implementing a $21 million Highway 169/25 interchange
project, which will reduce travel time and reduce risks to motorists and pedestrians.
Chaired the Belle Plaine Park
Board, 1998-2003
Planned, developed, and built a 12-acre park, offering previously unavailable
amenities to the local community.
A driving force behind the development of recreational paths for public
use in collaboration with local groups and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Board Member and Vice President of the Friends of the Minnesota River Valley,
2002-Present
Promoted a Minnesota River cleanup project with emphasis on local, grassroots
support and community involvement.
Coordinated a community growth planning conference in Belle Plaine, centered
on preserving
Organizing member of the 2005 Save the Wetlands Rally at the State Capitol.
