Tim Lies for State Representative 25B

My name is Tim Lies and I am running for the Minnesota House of Representatives in District 25B.

As a native Minnesotan, I’m proud of our state. Proud of our legacy of good government, quality public services, great schools and a clean environment. As I travel our district I hear again and again a concern that that legacy is threatened.  We deserve a state government that will invest in our common good and protect our legacy. We deserve to feel proud of the people we elect to represent us.

As an elected official currently serving on the Belle Plaine city council I have seen first-hand the negative effects of current state policies on our local communities. Property tax and fee increases, crowded classrooms and program cuts endanger our children's future.  Congested traffic and polluted air and water diminish our treasured natural resouces. We deserve a state government that will work with, not against our local communities.

We can have that state government. We can elect leaders who will work for the common good, not special interests. Leaders who will focus on what unites us, not what divides us. Leaders who understand:

  • That the investment in education made by our parents and grandparents has been the engine that drives our prosperity. That it is time to stop dismantling that system and to invest in education from pre-school through K-12 and beyond. To do less is to short-change our children and put our state’s economic future at risk.

  • That Minnesota can again lead the nation and provide an economic advantage to our businesses by implementing single-payer, universal health care access for all of our citizens.

  • That Minnesotans want to return to a structurally sound state budget. Accounting shifts, tax gimmicks and borrowing will not secure our future. We need fair tax policies that are good for both working families and business growth.

  • That Minnesotans want investment in a variety of transportation options that will reduce congestion, upgrade our infrastructure and lessens our environmental impact.

  • That Minnesota must preserve and protect our natural resources and lead the nation in renewable energy development.

I believe Minnesotans will not miss the opportunity to send new leaders to St. Paul in 2006. I am asking for your support to be one of those leaders and provide the kind of progressive, accountable leadership our district deserves.
